A wide range of quality and pricing exists in the field of taxidermy. Not only should your taxidermist be accomplished in the technical aspects of the trade, but they should also have a thorough knowledge of the anatomical characteristics of the species being handled. Familiarity with the life history and habits of the species is also very beneficial in portraying the subject species in a pose which is both aesthetically pleasing and anatomically accurate. I have spent most of my life studying fish and wildlife and guarantee all my work to be of the highest quality. Please contact me for specific information on what separates average work from quality you will be proud of. Also, I will be glad to help with information concerning getting your trophy back from your fishing or hunting trip in good condition for mounting. Proper care in the field enhances the quality of the end result. Care Of Finished Mounts - Cleaning of your mount on a regular basis is important to the enjoyment of your trophy. When dusting animals or birds always stroke the mount in the direction of the hair or feathers. A feather duster or vacuum brush works well for birds and fish while a tack rag or fresh slice of bread is better for dusting haired mounts. Fish may be wiped with a slightly damp cloth if dust buildup is heavy. Glass eyes may be polished with glass cleaner periodically. * Avoid direct sunlight. * Avoid high heat such as woodstoves. * All haired or feathered mounts should be treated with a bug-proofer each year. |
